Gaia revisited

Sunset clouds, digital photography, Nov. 2008

Earth's atmosphere is a most rare event in Nature, absolutely unlikely to be a product of hazard. Stable in composition and temperature for eons, it keeps a wonderful balance of its components that makes possible all physical and chemical transactions that life needs. It behaves with homeostatic moves to maintain stable thousands of "life constants", as any living organism does... Just a slight variation of 3% or 4% in the oxygen proportion, for instance, would terminate all life on Earth within only a few thousand years...

Independently of its meaning and the opinions we may have about it, "Gaia" exists as a global, permanent life-supporting homeostatic system, and our mere existence is the proof.
